No shame in my medieval game. Cochem Castle. Cochem Castle was originally built around 1000 (so well within the Medieval period) and survived until the mid 1600’s when the French burned it, and most of the city to the ground. I mean, they literally burned it and THEN blew it up. Rude!

What most people do is take the short train ride from Cochem to Moselkern and do the hike from there. cochem is a very nice town to walk around in. Cochem Imperial Castle – The Reichsburg Cochem has existed now for almost a thousand years. It was first mentioned in 1130, and was occupied twenty one years later by King Konrad III, who declared it an imperial castle. Louis XIV’s troop overran the castle in 1688 as part of the Nine Years’ War. Today, the castle is the perfect example of an imposing Medieval fortress, and a must-see.

Arriving in Cochem we parked our car at the Pinnerstrasse city parking lot, which is only 5 Euro all day and right behind the train station. From there we walked down to the main Bus Station to catch a ride (~6 Euro round trip) to the castle.
